Conal Creedon
Zdravka Evtimova was born in Bulgaria in 1959 where she lives and works as literary translator from English, French and German. She has lived and worked a literary translator in K?ln, Germany and in Brussels, Belgium. Her short stories have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in 30 countries in the world. The following of her books were published in English: Bitter Sky, short story collection, Somebody Else nominated for Pushcart Prize 2006, Miss Daniella, Good Figure Beautiful Voice, Pale and Other Postmodern Bulgarian Stories, and the novel God of Traitors.
Zdravka Evtimova’s short story Vassil was one of the 10 award winning stories in the BBC world-wide short story competition 2005. In was broadcast by Radio BBC UK in February 2006. Zdravka Evtimova’s short story It Is Your Turn was one of the ten award winning story, which after a world-wide competition was included in the anthology Dix auteurs du monde entier (Ten Writers from All over the world’ In Nantes, France, 2005. Her novel THE ARCH, published by Ciela Publishers, Bulgaria, in 2007, was nominated for the Book of Europe Award in 2008. She has won Cosmos National short story award (2004), Anna Kamenova National short Story Award (2005), Best Bulgarian novel 2003 award of the Union of Bulgarian Writers for her novel Thursday , and Blaga Dimitrova National Fiction Prize (2015).
Zdravka Evtimova has translated and facilitated the publication of numerous short stories and poems by Bulgarian writers and poets in France, UK, Germany and USA. In the period 1998-2006, she worked as a literary editor for Bulgaria of the American literary magazine “Muse", published in California, USA. In the period 2005- 2007, Zdravka Evtimova worked as a literary editor for Bulgaria of the “The Local Minds” literary Magazine, Budapest, Hungary. She has translated more than 20 novels by American, English and Australian authors – whose work has won major literary prizes -into Bulgarian.
